The communicative language teaching (CLT) is currently the most recognized approach of language teaching. It belongs to the post-method era of language. The Longman Dictionary of English defines it as "An approach to foreign or second language which emphasis that the goal of language learning is communicative competence". According to what you've been reading about it, number the benefits and the advantages of this method. You can cite any author's opinion if you wish!

About the "to and fro" movement of Language Teaching methods since Gouin's time, how did each new method borrow some feature from the previous practices? And what they rejected from the previous one? Give examples to support your arguments.

Discussion on H. Douglas Bronwn's chapter 2 (A methodical history of language teaching. In: BROWN, H. Douglas. Teaching by principles: an interactive approach to language pedagogy. New Jersey, Prentice Hall Regents, 2001.)

Question for discussion: Richards & Rodgers (1986) said that The Grammar Translation is a method for which there's no theory. Do you agree with this judgement?
